Chandigarh, June 5: Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Abhay Singh Chautala alleged on Monday that Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda were responsible for the misery of thousands of employees who would be rendered jobless after the Punjab and Haryana High Court quashed the regularisation policy recently.
Abhay, while addressing mediapersons here, said that on the eve of the 2014 elections, then Hooda government had regularised the services of those who had been working on ad hoc, contractual, daily wage and work charge basis contrary to the advice of the Legal Remembrance.
He alleged that the Congress did this in order derive political advantage in the last Assembly elections.
The present BJP government paid little attention to the issue and compounded its culpability by not only putting up a weak defence in the High Court but also doing nothing to help hapless employees, he added.
Abhay criticised the government for the ‘poor law and order situation’ in the state. He alleged that those in power were seen supporting the perpetrators of crimes on various occasions.
He said that the family of Manoj Wadhawa, Deputy Mayor of Karnal, was suffering, as he had contested the Assembly elections from Karnal against Khattar in 2014.
“Manoj’s younger brother Bharat, aka Sonu Wadhawa, was apprehended while carrying Rs 16.42 lakh related to business. However, when the name of the family became public, the government prevailed upon the police to register a case of recovery of Rs 70 lakh. Unable to bear pressure, Sonu committed suicide. But instead of registering a case against those who were responsible for abetting Sonu to commit suicide, the police booked his family.
The matter was brought to the notice of top police officers and following an inquiry the Karnal police was directed to register an FIR against those who had been found responsible for abetting suicide and the Wadhawa family was absolved. However, the Karnal police chose to ignore the directions, ostensibly under the influence of some superior authority,” Abhay alleged while producing Manoj Wadhawa before mediapersons.
He spoke about the decisions taken at the working committee meeting of the INLD on Sunday. He said that since the membership drive of the party had been completed, the present working committee stood dissolved and a new body would be constituted soon.
