Hoshiarpur Bhangi choe to be developed on pattern of Patiala’s Badi, Chhoti Nadi

Punjab Water Resources Minister Mr. Bram Shanker Jimpa directed the officials of the department to ensure quality and timely completion of the all ongoing projects in the state, while asking them to prepare a project for renovation & rejuvenation of Bhangi Choe in the Hoshiarpur city on the pattern of Badi and Chhoti Nadi of Patiala.

Chairing a meeting of Water Resources Department officials here at Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Sector-26, the Cabinet Minister asked them to maintain the transparency at any cost as per the policy of Punjab Government as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Mr. Arvind Kejriwal and the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Mann had promised to give clean, honest and transparent government to the people of the state. He also directed that the families of workers who died during the construction of Dams shall be rehabilitated on priority by giving a government job, if not done so far.

Keeping in view the onset of monsoon, Mr. Bram Shanker Jimpa instructed the officers to complete flood protection works well before the rainy season for which he would keep a review meeting soon. He also asked the department to brief the progress of works executed in any area to the local MLAs.

While welcoming the Minister, Additional Chief Secretary Water Resources Mr. Sarvjit Singh apprised him about the Key activities, initiatives & statistics of the department. He specifically briefed him about the construction of Shahpur Kandi Barrage, Relining of Rajasthan Feeder, Sirhind Feeder, Kandi Canal and Lahore Branch of UBDC, besides apprising about the Ground Water and Surface Water scenario of Punjab.

The Cabinet Minister stressed that a policy should be formulated to encourage the industry in the area where water is easily available. Mr. Sarvjit Singh apprised the Minister that Punjab Government has already formed Punjab Water Regulation and Development Authority (PWRDA) for the judicious use of the available water.

Lauding the efforts being put up by the engineers of the Department in achieving various targets and completion of ongoing projects, Mr. Jimpa emphasized that all the projects shall be completed in a stipulated time frame so that the benefits of these projects shall pass on to the public and quality must not be compromised at any cost during the execution of the works.
