Chandigarh, July 5
With formation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab, the deadly power agreements made by the Badals with the private power companies would be canceled and if these agreements were not canceled; the people of Punjab would have to pay Rs 2.25 lakh crore to private power companies. This revelation was made by AAP state president and Lok Sabha member Bhagwant Mann during a press conference held at the party headquarters here on Monday. Mann said that during the 2022 elections, the Aam Aadmi Party would come up with an effective road map for the people of Punjab so that the people would be economically prosperous and culturally rich.
Bhagwant Mann said that the joint government of the Akali Dal and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had entered into deadly power agreements with the private power companies and now the Congress government has implemented these faulty pacts. “Due to this, Rs 20,000 crore has been given to the private power companies from the exchequer of Punjab without purchasing power. Also, the people of Punjab have to buy the most expensive power in the country,” he added. Mann said that the Aam Aadmi Party had always opposed these power deals and that was why the party had laid siege to the Siswan farmhouse of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. Due to this, now Captain Amarinder Singh was also saying that these power deals are being reviewed as 122 out of 147 power deals have been proved wrong, he asserted. Mann said that the private power companies had spent about Rs 25,000 crore for setting up a power thermal plant whereas the company had recovered double the cost from the exchequer of Punjab.
Mann further said that AAP’s National Convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced 24 hours power supply and 300 units of free electricity per month on formation of AAP government in Punjab; which was now being supported and justified by the Congress leaders. The AAP leader said that if the mafia rule in Punjab was eradicated and looting of public exchequer was stopped, then the people of Punjab could be provided better facilities, because AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal has done all this in Delhi. Replying to a question, Bhagwant Mann said that the Election Commission of India should register election manifestos issued by political parties and also issue notices to the party forming the government against non-fulfillment of election promises.
