Patiala, December 21: The district police today procured the custody of Inderjit Singh Sandhu, an accomplice of notorious gangsters Vicky Gounder, Prema Lohoria and Neeta Deol. Sandhu was arrested from the Indira Gandhi International Airport by the Delhi Police two days ago for travelling on a fake passport.
A mastermind of the Nabha jailbreak case, Sandhu was a key link between various gangsters. His arrest has brought to light a fake passport racket in the state wherein gangsters have managed to procure passports and even travelled abroad using these. Sandhu too had travelled to Dubai and Jordan on a fake passport.
Police sources say Sandhu was instrumental in providing logistics, finance and hideouts to the gangsters. He was one of the conspirators in the murder of notorious gangster Sukha Kahlwan. A national-level player, Sandhu studied at Sports School, Jalandhar, with Vicky Gounder and Prema Lahoriya.
He was travelling from Jordon to New Delhi on a fake passport in the name of Gurjant Singh when he was arrested. He is involved in a number of crimes across Punjab. “His role is under scanner for recruiting new members for various gangs.
He had also been negotiating contracts for killing rival gangsters,” said intelligence officials. They claimed that the accused was handling Facebook profiles of Gounder and Shera Khuban group and had been repeatedly using this platform for issuing threats on their behalf.
A senior official said: “We had been tracking his movement ever since he tried to be in touch with various gangsters, but he got suspicious and stopped visiting any of them in the jail and escaped to Dubai from where he was deported.”The district police had issued a lookout notice against the accused.
He has been officially arrested and FIR under the NDPS Act, Arms Act and other offences registered at the Rajpura police station. The police have got his custody for three days and his interrogation is likely to throw light on the Nabha jailbreak case and other recent crimes in the state.
