Chandigarh, July 28: Ahead the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s Lambi rally on October 7, Punjab Congress on Thursday held a meeting with the Cabinet Ministers, party MLAs from Malwa region of the state, district presidents and other senior office-bearers of party to review the preparations for the same.
Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar chaired the meeting for much-hyped rally of Capt Amarinder at Killianwali village in Lambi — the home constituency of Akali patriarch and five-time Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
The rally will be held on October 7 and will coincide with one by opposition Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Patiala — the home turf of Capt Amarinder.
The aim of the rally in Lambi is to “expose the dubious and hypocritical face” of SAD leaders who did politics in the name of ‘panth’ (Sikh community) and then stabbed the ‘panth’ in the back for their “vested political interest”, said Jahkar.
He said that SAD president Sukhbir Badal could not run away from responsibility of events that took place during his tenure as the state’s Home Minister.
Sukhbir was the home minister of the state when the shootout in Behbal Kalan took place and even after being repeatedly asked by the people of Punjab, he did not say who ordered the firing, said Jakhar.
He said that people have been very enthusiastic since Capt Amarinder announced the rally in Lambi and claimed the event will witness a historic gathering.
Lauding the Congress-led dispensation, Jakhar said that the government implemented the historic decision of debt waiver for farmers and picked up farmers’ commodities from mandis without any delay.
