“After getting the nod from them that these jammers can be installed.. Also full body scanner installation is being contemplated in jails. Besides, it has been decided that nobody barring the superintendent would be allowed to carry mobile phones inside the jails,” said Mr. Randhawa here.
He was presiding over a high-level departmental meeting to review security of jails in Punjab.
He said those inmates who are desirous of pursuing academics would be provided with congenial atmosphere and all assistance. “Health of the inmates would be given topmost priority for which we would demand from the health ministry to depute on permanent basis expert doctors,” he said.
Mr. Randhawa divulged that during 2017 a total of 1,500 mobiles have been recovered from jails which is a cause of concern.
“In order to stop this trend the additional chief secretary would instruct all the district police chiefs to probe mobile recovery cases in an in-depth manner. Any jail officer-official found guilty would be given exemplary punishment,” the Minister added.
