Rupnagar, January 10, 2018: A joint search operation was conducted in District Jail, Rupnagar by District and Sessions Judge Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Deputy Commissioner Gurneet Kaur Tej, Senior Superintendent of Police Rajbachan Singh Sandhu, Secretary cum Chief Judicial Magistrate Ajitpal Singh and Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Lakhmir Singh as per the directions of Department of Home, Law and Order, Punjab.
Special teams were constituted in the search operation conducted in all the barracks, hospitals, women ward and special cells minutely. Taking a note of the Convicts/ Undertrials kept in Jail Hospital, District and Sessions Judge Balwinder Singh Sandhu issued directions for maintanenece of a register in which it would be mentioned as to the inmate being kept in Hospital is suffering from which diseases and on which date.
The Jail Authorities were also directed to clarify under which rules television sets and LCDs have been provided to the inmates. The Jail administration was asked to explain as to under which rules can cook there food separately. The Deputy Commissioner, Rupnagar directed ,a child aged about 4 years who was also living in Jail with his mother, be also sent to School. The Legal Aid Clinic was also visited by the team and the record was inspected. The team specially visited the kitchen of the Jail and checked the food being served to the inmates.
The officers also heard the grievances of inmates and issued necessary directions. The Jail Superintendent request a wall be constructed between the residential colony and the Jail. It was apprised that such surprise checking shall also be held in future.
