Kavita Khanna: Will work for Swaran Salaria’s win

Date:

Gurdaspur, September 22: Kavita Khanna, widow of actor Vinod Khanna, today said she accepted the BJP’s decision of fielding Swaran Salaria from Gurdaspur. She said she would work for his victory.

Salaria would file his papers on Friday.
Sources said an influential lobby of Pathankot-based leaders ensured she did not get the ticket. “We told the leadership that she is a non-Punjabi-speaking person. She has no interest in the constituency and she is sure to shift base to Mumbai where she has business interests and where her family is based, if at all she contests and wins. If the party fields her, we will not support her,” said a party leader.
To this, Kavita responded: “Ever since my husband contested his first election in 1998 and till his death, I have been in touch with the people of Gurdaspur. The social work I have undertaken is for all to see.”
