Khalistan row shadows pilgrims’ visit to Pak

Date:

New Delhi, November 23: Amid positive news on the issue of opening of Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, India-Pakistan ties were shadowed with controversy yet again. Sources said Indian diplomats were stopped from meeting Sikh pilgrims from India at Nankana Sahib Gurdwara in Lahore on Wednesday and at Gurdwara Sachcha Sauda on Thursday.

The Pakistan High Commission has issued visas to 3,800 Sikh devotees from India to attend the Guru Nanak Dev birth anniversary celebrations. Along with Sikh pilgrims from across the globe, the Indian jatha are to visit gurdwaras in Pakistan from November 21 to 30.

While the Pakistani authorities cited security concerns for not allowing Indian officials inside the gurdwaras, a video shows Khalistani sympathiser Gopal Singh Chawla misbehaving with the diplomats instead of Pakistani government security personnel barring their entry.

“The administrative control of Sikh holy places is with the Sikh community. We do not interfere in their internal matters,” said Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal, dismissing Indian allegations.
