Amritsar, July 1: About 150 students of the erstwhile Khalsa University applied for admission in Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) during a four-day counselling that ended on Friday.
Dr Subodh Kumar, Dean Academic Affairs, who was supervising the counselling, said a little over 150 students applied for admission. “Scrutiny of their documents will commence on Monday and the final report will be submitted to the Vice-Chancellor,” he said.
After the state Cabinet gave its nod to scrap the university in April to “protect” the legacy of the 125-year-old Khalsa College, academic career of the students had come under cloud. The Khalsa College Governing Council challenged the state move ion the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The next date of hearing has been scheduled for July 11.
On the directions of the state government, the GNDU held a special counselling for the students of the Khalsa varsity.
The GNDU had sought a list of students from the Khalsa varsity management. The latter is yet to send a reply. The GNDU will contact the students who did not appear in the counselling.
