Khelo India: Punjab’s Chanveer, Haryana’s Bhupender win gold

New Delhi, February 1: Punjab’s Chanveer Kaur won the girls’ 200 metres gold medal on the second day of the Khelo India School Games here today. Chanveer clocked 24.76 seconds to finish ahead of Kerala’s Ancy Sojan (25.31s).

Haryana’s Bhupender Singh won the silver medal in the boys’ long jump with a best 7.04 meters. Tamil Nadu’s C Praveen, who won the triple jump gold yesterday, finished second.In the boys’ javelin throw, Haryana’s Yashveer Singh claimed the silver medal with 73.87m.

Maharashtra’s Vikas claimed the gold in the final attempt with a throw of 75.02m. The girls’ javelin throw was dominated by the northern states as Jyoti of Haryana claimed the gold with an effort of 40.59m. Delhi’s Auhona Roy (39.90m) and Punjab’s Jashanpreet Kaur (37.10m) won silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Ancy also won the long jump gold medal to become one of the three double medallists so far. Kerala’s Sandra Babu, who won the triple jump silver yesterday, finished second behind Ancy. The girls’ pole vault saw a fine performance from Tamil Nadu’s T Sathya, who won the gold with a 3.50m effort.

Meanwhile, it rained goals in the boys’ hockey competition as 37 goals were scored in four matches. Odisha recorded a 14-3 win over Rajasthan, Chandigarh drubbed Delhi 8-0, Punjab beat Haryana 4-2, while Uttar Pradesh eased past Karnataka 5-1. In the girls’ competition, Haryana overpowered Jharkhand 4-2, while Punjab scored a fighting 3-1 win over Chandigarh.In girls’ football, Manipur thrashed Delhi 9-0, West Bengal got the better of Tripura 3-0 and Gujarat beat Mizoram 7-1. Punjab’s boys beat Assam 2-0, while Delhi stunned Manipur 2-1.
