SAD leader Dyal Singh Kolianwali not new to controversy

Date:

Muktsar, July 3: Three-time SGPC member and senior SAD leader Dyal Singh Kolianwali, who was booked in a disproportionate assets case, is not new to controversies. His name had cropped up in the multi-crore job scam in 2016, when his close aide, a councillor from Malout, Sham Lal Gupta Daddi, was arrested.

In December 2004, Kolianwali and his son Parminder Singh were booked in a murder case, but were acquitted by a court in 2011.

Before the Assembly elections in 2012, nearly 15 packets of some suspicious substance were seized from his residence. He later got a clean chit.

During the Talwandi Sabo bypoll in 2014, AAP leaders had accused him of attacking their party candidate.

Further, his family owed about Rs 1 crore to Punjab Agricultural Development Bank (PADB) for long, which again brought him to news. He started repaying it recently after the Congress government put pressure on him.

Kolianwali was also a major defaulter of the PSPCL and the electricity meter was removed from his residence last year due to an outstanding amount of Rs 23 lakh.

Last year, the Malout police had booked Kolianwali, his son, nephew and two others in an attempt to murder case. The FIR was lodged a day after four Congressmen and nine others were booked for an alleged bid to kill his son.
During any village level or municipal election, his rival parties have always accused him of booth capturing and violence.

Kolianwali started his political career by becoming a panchayat member of his village in 1970s. He was later elected sarpanch. At present, he is numberdar of his village and his wife is sitting sarpanch for the last about 10 years.

In 2014, the SAD-BJP appointed him chairman of the Punjab Agro Foodgrains Corporation.

Kolianwali has also served as a member of Punjab Subordinate Service Selection Board.
