The drug mafia has gone rampant in Punjab as drug smugglers are getting the support of the Congress leaders. The drug smugglers who used to have the patronage of Captain Amarinder Singh; now the heart of Congress state president Navjot Sidhu is beating for those drug smugglers.” Alleging this, senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema asked the Chief Minister whether the Congress government was backing the drug smugglers or the government representatives were involved in the black game.
In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Thursday, Harpal Singh Cheema alleged the heart of the Congress state president Navjot Sidhu was now beating for the Congress leaders convicted of illicit liquor making and smuggling; whereas earlier Navjot Sidhu used to obtest over no action against drug smugglers in the state. He questioned whether the share which was earlier given to Captain Amarinder Singh by the drug mafia was now being taken by Navjot Sidhu. Cheema further said that Navjot Sidhu should make it clear whether his earlier statements on drug trafficking and illicit liquor cases were true, or that his current actions are correct.
Taking a dig at Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Harpal Singh Cheema said even after taking oath of Sri Gutka Sahib, Captain did not eradicate drug mafia from the state and now even the Congress state president Navjot Sidhu has joined hands with the drug smugglers. He said the manner in which the drug mafia had spread its wings in Punjab had exposed the claim of Captain Amarinder Singh to break the backbone of drugs in four weeks.
“Even today, the youth are falling prey to drugs every day and thousands of houses are being devastated; but the ruling party is busy looting and beating Punjab,” he added. The AAP leader said with the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, full account would be taken from the political leaders and police officers who had ruined the youth and the complete record of those who had ruined Punjab would be made public.
