Amritsar, June 10: Taking a serious note of the screening of liquor advertisements on the LEDs on Heritage Street leading to the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday ordered an inquiry into the recent incidents that have hurt religious sentiments of devotees.
A spokesperson in the chief minister’s office said that the Amritsar deputy commissioner has asked the additional deputy commissioner to submit his report on such incidents within a week.
“No one will be allowed to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in Punjab. The sanctity of holy places will be maintained at all costs,” he said.
The LED screens have been put up to telecast the Gurbani (hymns) from Guru Granth Sahib in Darbar Sahib, the sanctum sanctorum of the holiest shrine of the Sikhs. Sikhism prohibits drinking alcohol.
