Muktsar, August 8: ‘Dakuaan Da Munda’, a Punjabi movie based on the life of a reformed gangster-drug addict Baljinder Singh Sandhu, known as Mintu Gurusaria of Gurusar Jodha village in the Lambi Assembly segment, is scheduled to release this Friday. The film is produced by Lakhvir Chahal of Dream Reality Movies and actor Dev Kharoud is playing Gurusaria. Other actors are Pooja Verma, Kuljinder Sidhu, Sukhdeep Sukh and Jagjeet Sandhu.
Gurusaria (40), a former kabaddi player, was 16 when he started taking heroin and fell into the world of crime. He faced several criminal cases, including attempt to murder and robbery. His father had disassociated him from property, but a road mishap in 2011 changed his life. He remained bed-ridden for a long time and then stepped towards mending his ways.
He started writing and contributing to newspapers. He has authored two books “Zindagi De Aashiq” and “Dakuaan Da Munda”. Besides, he hosts several programmes on foreign radio channels. He also claims to have helped in changing lives of some addicts.
Informing about his past and ways to check drug menace, he said, “I could not attend the cremation of my father, who passed away in jail in 2003. I also failed to attend the wedding of my younger brother, who got married before me. This is the story of almost every addict in the state. Their lives can be saved only if the government breaks the supply chain of drugs, introduces some alternate of drugs that a registered addict can get in prescribed quantity under some supervision.”
“It is a must-watch movie for all Punjabis, not just for those trying to quit drugs and other illegal activities. It is not easy for an ex-addict to return to a normal life and get respect from society,” he added.
