Muktsar, December 23: The district administration on Friday became richer by Rs 46.31 lakh by giving permission to a private company through tendering process to hold ‘Maghi mela’ in January.
The tendering process was last year done at Rs 29.01 lakh. It means the tender was allotted at Rs 17.3 lakh higher than last year.
The fee will go into the account of the District Red Cross Society, which is headed by the Deputy Commissioner. The district administration through the District Red Cross Society every year holds tendering process to give permission to a private company to hold the mela and install swings.
However, it does not provide anything to the private company. The company has to get private land on lease, install swings and hire the workers on its own.
Jagjit Singh, a local resident, who made the highest bid of Rs 46.31 lakh and got the tender on his firm’s name, said, “We will be installing some new swings this time. But the mela entry fee and other swings’ charges will remain the same as of last year. Besides, we will present some cultural items to connect people with Punjabi culture.”
