Jalandhar, May 25: Former Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Friday alleged that while the youth of Punjab were still awaiting jobs, three of the four family members of Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu had been rewarded with plum posts by the Congress.
Addressing people in Shahkot’s Mulewal Khaira and other villages, Majithia took on his arch-rival saying, “While Sidhu himself is a minister, his wife has been made Chairperson of the Warehousing Corporation and now his son Karan Sidhu has been appointed Assistant Advocate General.”
He said nothing was being done to give unemployment allowance of Rs 2,500 to the youth and increase social welfare benefits.
Sidhu, who was in Jalandhar for a protest against fuel price hike, defended his son’s appointment. He said: “Karan completed his studies in the US. He has been working with the Advocate General office for a year and a half without any salary. Now that he has started drawing a salary of Rs 50,000, everyone is talking. My wife is a doctor. She has not joined as the Chairperson of Warehousing Corporation.” He, however, hinted that she might join after the bypoll.
