Chandigarh, July 24
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has demanded from the ruling Congress government to make public the investigation report prepared by the Special Task Force (STF) on drug trafficking; so that the names of big defaulters linked to the drug mafia can be made public. In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Saturday, AAP senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema while challenging the newly-appointed state president of the ruling Congress, Navjot Singh Sidhu, said that due to collusion between the drug kingpins and the government; the STF’s sealed report was gathering dust in the Honourable High Court since February 1, 2018 and no official authority had made any effort at the administrative and legal level to get the report unsealed. On the contrary, the entire emphasis of the Punjab Advocate General’s office was that it be kept at bay, so that the 2022 assembly elections can pass.
Harpal Singh Cheema said that as long as Punjab Advocate General Atul Nanda will remain in the AG’s office; neither the STF report would be made public nor the Punjab government would be able to win any prestigious case. “That is why we demand from the newly appointed Punjab Congress president Navjot Sidhu to make the STF report public in two weeks, as it cannot be expected from the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh,” he said.
While addressing Navjot Singh Sidhu, Harpal Singh Cheema said, “Sidhu saab, you are now the state president of the ruling Congress party. From the Chief Minister to all the ministers, all are under you. You no longer have the excuse that you have no power. Therefore, call an immediate meeting of all the MLAs-Ministers including the Chief Minister and ask the government to dismiss AG Atul Nanda and make the STF report public. Not only we (AAP) but also the people of Punjab have started counting down the days to bring all such issues to a conclusion.”
