Chandigarh, October 4: Two persons, including one who used to sell heroin on the Panjab University (PU) campus, have been arrested by the crime branch of the UT police under the NDPS Act.
According to the police, one of the accused, Naveen Sood, a resident of Milk Colony, Dhanas, was arrested from near the Rally Ground in Sector 25 with 25 gm of heroin.
Crime branch sleuths said Naveen used to sell heroin on the PU campus. “We had a tip-off that Naveen had a drug nexus in the area. Youths, especially PU students, were his customers,” said a crime branch official.
Sources said the accused earlier worked at a shop in the PGI where some PU students were frequent visitors. The accused built a chain and started supplying them heroin.
The police said the call detail records (CDRs) of the accused were being scrutinised to establish who all were in contact with him.
The accused was earlier arrested by the Special Task Force (STF), Mohali, with 30 gm of heroin. The accused is married and has a child.
A case has been registered against him at the Sector 11 police station.
Sources said the accused used to deliver the drug either on the PU campus or in nearby sectors. Some of his customers were residents of boys’ hostels, said a crime branch sleuth. The police said they were trying to ascertain the source from where the accused purchased the drug. The accused has been remanded in judicial custody.
In another case, the crime branch arrested Manjit Singh, a resident of Samrala in Ludhiana district, with 50 banned injections. The accused was arrested on a tip-off from Sector 45. A case has been registered against him at the Sector 34 police station.
