Man dies, brother hurt as tree falls in Sec 10

Chandigarh, August 14: A 35-year-old man was killed and his younger brother injured after a tree fell on them while they were riding a motorcycle in Sector 10 on Monday morning. The duo, residents of Nayagaon, was going to work when the mishap took place.

The victims, Dinesh Singh and Ramesh Singh, employees at a cloth store in Sector 17, were on their way to work at 9.45 am when the tree fell on them near house number 16.

Passersby gathered at the spot and informed the police about the incident after which Dinesh, who suffered a serious head injury, was taken to the PGI in a private vehicle, where doctors declared him brought dead. Ramesh was taken to the GMSH, Sector 16, in a PCR vehicle from where he was referred to the PGI, where his condition is stated to be stable.

Dinesh was riding pillion at the time of the incident. He is survived by his wife.

The police have initiated an investigation into the matter. A DDR has been lodged at the Sector 3 police station.
Later, teams of the UT Administration reached the spot and the tree was cut.
