Man tears pages of Guru Granth Sahib in Balachaur, held

Nawanshahr, June 13: The district police on Tuesday arrested Jagjit Singh, alias Jagga, of Bachori village after torn pages of Guru Granth Sahib were found at a gurdwara in Balachaur.

The police said they were yet to ascertain the reason behind the indicent, but Jagga was upset over his mother’s death. After cremation, he visited the gurdwara and allegedly tore the pages from the “bir”, the police said.

“We are trying to find out if some other person was involved too. The accused had recently scuffled with one of his relatives,” said Ajay Kumar, SHO.

A complaint was lodged by the gurdwara granthi. The police checked the CCTV footage which clearly showed Jagga first tore the pages and then removed his clothes.
