Gurdaspur, February 16: The mortal remains of 28-year-old Maninder Singh, who was killed in the Pulwama terror attack, were consigned to the flames on Saturday at his native place here with full state and military honours.

The pyre was lit by Maninder’s younger brother Lakhvir Singh, who is also serving the CRPF.

Maninder was among the 42 CRPF personnel killed in Thursday’s terror strike in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

He is survived by father Satpal Singh Attri, three sisters and brother Lakhvir.

Mourners, carrying the national flag, raised slogans of ‘Maninder amar rahe, Maninder zindabad’ and ‘Bharat mata ki jai’. Anti-Pakistan slogans rent the air.

Schoolchildren carrying the Tricolour were standing on the road from where the vehicle carrying the mortal remains passed.

Maninder had a B Tech degree and worked in an IT firm in Bengaluru before joining the CRPF in 2015. His father is a retired Punjab Roadways employee.

Transport Minister and local MLA Aruna Chowdhary and former state minister Mohan Lal paid their tributes to Maninder at the cremation ground.
