New Delhi: India on Wednesday confirmed that Pakistan had attempted to violate the Indian airspace early this morning and target military installations on its side, but that bid was thwarted by the Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar told a press briefing that in the Indian retaliation, one Pakistan Air Force fighter aircraft was shot down by a MiG-21 Bison aircraft of the IAF.
“Pakistan has responded this morning to India’s counter-terror operations against Jaish-e-Mohammed. Pakistan has used its Air Force to target military installations on the Indian side, but their attempts were foiled successfully,” the MEA spokesperson said.
“One Pakistan Air Force fighter aircraft was shot down by the Indian Air Force. In this engagement, we have lost one MiG-21. Pilot is missing in action. Pakistan has claimed one Indian pilot is in their custody; details are being ascertained,” the spokesperson said, sitting along with Air Vice Marshal RGK Kapoor.
