Memorandum to PM on injustice to SCs

Date:

Ropar, May 19: The National Scheduled Castes Alliance on Friday submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through Ropar Divisional Commissioner Rahul Tiwari seeking the Centre’s intervention to stop the alleged rising instances of violence, social discrimination, boycott and injustice against the Scheduled Castes.

Alliance president Paramjit Singh Kainth said one of the main reasons for submitting the memorandum was the ‘dilution’ of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. He said the Union Government without any delay should go beyond political compulsions to enact a legislation for the inclusion of the SC/ST Act in the Ninth (IX) Schedule of the Constitution by calling a special session of Parliament.

This would help prevent misdealing with the Act and boost the confidence of the SCs in the government, he added.
