Srinagar, August 30: One militant was killed on Thursday in an ongoing gunfight in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, officials said.
The gunfight started in the wee hours when joint teams of the police, Army and CRPF were carrying out a cordon and a search operation at Parrey Mohalla Hajin, some 35 km from Srinagar.
“The hiding militants opened fire on the searching parties which was retaliated, triggering a gunfight,” a security officer said.
There was no immediate report of any casualties so far.
The officer said there were inputs that at least two militants are hiding in the area.
In the past 24 hours this is the third gunfight in Kashmir. Four policemen and two militants were killed in two separate violent incidents in south Kashmir on Wednesday.
