Militants attack CRPF patrol in Kashmir’s Anantnag; 2 jawans dead

Srinagar, July 13: Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were killed and another was injured in a militant attack in south Kashmir’s Anatnag district on Friday.

Militants fired upon CRPF men of 96 battalion at Achabal Anantnag, nearly 65 kms from Srinagar, resulting in injuries to three men.

“The CRPF men along with police were on law and order duty during which unknown militants opened fire at around 11 am resulting in injuries to three personnel. They were evacuated to hospital, however, two of the injured jawans succumbed to their injuries,” a security officer said.

The identity of the slain jawans could not be established immediately.

Soon after the incident, the area was cordoned by the forces to trace the militants involved in the attack.
