Shopian, June 4: At least 16 people, including four policemen, were injured in a grenade attack in a busy market area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, the police said.
Militants hurled a grenade at security forces in Shopian town, resulting in injuries to at least 12 civilians and four cops, a police official said.
He said the area has been cordoned off and a search operation started to nab the attackers. A girl who was among the injured was said to be in critical condition and rushed to a Srinagar hospital.
Hospital sources identified two of the injured policemen as Station House Officer (SHO) Gulzar Ahmad and his security guard.
Militants have carried out a series of grenade attacks on security forces and politicians since last week despite New Delhi declaring a unilateral but conditional truce during the holy month of Ramzan.
