Mining row: BJP complains to Lokpal, demands action

Date:

Chandigarh, June 8: Yesterday a delegation of the state BJP complains against Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh and five Congress MLAs to Lokpal Justice SK Mittal (retd), seeking action against them for alleged abuse of power to capture mining contracts.

BJP complains

The party has filed two complaints — one against Rana Gurjit and the other against five MLAs Kushaldeep Dhillon (Faridkot), Sukhpal Singh Bhullar (Khemkaran), Amrik Dhillon (Samrala), Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi (Guruharsahai) and Angad Singh (Nawanshahr).
In a press release, the BJP alleged that Congress leaders misused their position to capture the mining business through their “frontmen”. The party demanded action against them under the Punjab Lokpal Act, 1996.
The delegation said the terms and conditions of e-biding were changed and the rule of minimum three bidders was violated. “In one case, a single bidder bagged five mines without facing competition. A perusal of facts indicates that the minister and the Congress MLAs are involved in the lucrative sand business,” it said.
The Lokpal assured the delegation of taking action after examining the complaints.
The BJP delegation comprised state party vice-presidents Harjit Singh Grewal and Iqbal Singh Lalpura, secretaries Vineet Joshi and Vijay Puri, and general secretary Manjit Singh Rai.
