Patiala, September 2: The district Public Relations Department today quoted Health Minister Brahm Mohindra as saying that Premis would be provided security and other help they needed from the state government.
However, department officials withdrew the statement an hour later, claiming that the minister had asked them to do so. Brahm Mohindra could not be contacted for comment.As per the statement, Mohindra had said: “The guilty (in the dera rape case) has been punished. The Premis are also human beings. They are our own people. They should not be punished for someone else’s fault.”
The minister had also been quoted as saying that he would raise the matter with Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh so that relief could be provided to the innocents who were killed or injured in the firing. “Not all people killed or injured were guilty,” the statement had said.“We stand by the victims who were caught unawares in the police action. While our police and the administration did an outstanding job, the Premis also deserve our praise for maintaining peace in the state,” the statement had further said.During a visit to Bathinda on August 27, Capt Amarinder had stated that no compensation would be given to the families of Dera Sacha Sauda followers who were killed in clashes with the police in Panchkula after the sect head’s conviction on August 25.
