Sangrur, February 17: Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today announced to release Rs 90.88 crore for the sewerage project of Sangrur city. “Sangrur will get a total of Rs 206 crore for the sewerage systems and Sangrur city in particular will get Rs 90.88 crore. All the amount will be released within next seven-eight days,” said Sidhu.
Former SAD Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Parkash Chand Garg said it was his party which had commenced the sewerage project in 2016 before Assembly elections. He alleged that Congress stopped the project immediately after coming to power in 2017.
When questioned over the allegations levelled by Garg, the minister said the SAD leaders were lying in order to create confusion among the masses.
“My fight would continue despite hurdles. I would fight till the issuance of cable Bill for state. I would not allow cable mafia to rob the residents at any cost,” added Sidhu.
He also dared former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal for an open debate.
However, Sangrur Congress MLA Vijay Inder Singla refuted the claims of Garg, and said the SAD laid the foundation stone of the project twice but nothing happened on the ground.
“SAD leaders worked only on papers and did nothing on ground. If they would have initiated the project, Sangrur city would have been free of sewerage related issues,” said Singla.
