Gurdaspur, June 30: Old enmity has been ignited with Cabinet minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa openly castigating his party colleague and Rajya Sabha MP Partap Singh Bajwa in a TV interview. The clip of the interview has gone viral.
The enmity between the two senior Gurdaspur-based leaders is decades old. Satnam Singh Bajwa, father of Partap, and Gurbachan Singh Bajwa, father of Tript, remained at loggerheads with each other. The feuding Bajwa families belong to the same town, Qadian. Both Tript and Partap have remained legislators from the Qadian seat.
Tript was apparently reacting to Partap’s statement made recently from Canada that “the Punjab government was running without an engine.” Both Tript and his Cabinet colleague Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa are known to be close to Capt Amarinder.
In the interview, Tript made some stinging comments against the MP. “Partap has slid into depression and went to Canada for treatment. Being a senior leader, it is not appropriate on his part to speak out against his party colleagues. Before speaking out against the CM, Partap should know that Amarinder now has two-thirds majority in the Assembly. I fail to understand why Partap has developed a knack of speaking so loosely against the CM and his party colleagues,” said Tript
Although Partap, who is away to Canada, could not be contacted for comments, he has tweeted that he has given no such statement against the CM.
“I have come to learn of a statement being attributed to me against Punjab CM @capt_amarinder ji. I have given no such statement in Canada. I debunk it and it is totally misleading. The statement is being mischievously spread and holds zero truth,” he said.
Meanwhile, a senior leader said: “Tript’s tirade against Partap definitely has the backing of the CM. It is a clear attempt to politically dislodge him.”
