Modi to unveil renovated complex of Jallianwala Bagh Smarak this evening

Date:

New Delhi, August 28

Noting that India will never forget its martyrs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that he would unveil the renovated complex of Jallianwala Bagh Smarak in Amritsar on Saturday evening and claimed that the event “will interest people”.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Modi said, “At 6.25 this evening, a programme will be held that will interest the people. The renovated complex of Jallianwala Bagh Smarak will be dedicated to the nation. India will never forget the martyrs of Jallianwala Bagh.”

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the complex and address on the occasion through video-conferencing from here, said the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in an official statement. It said Modi would also inaugurate museum galleries developed at the memorial in Amritsar.

Noting that the event will showcase multiple development initiatives taken by the government to upgrade the complex, the PMO said four museum galleries had been created through adaptive reuse of redundant and underutilised buildings.

The galleries showcased the historical value of events that unfolded in Punjab during that period, with the fusion of audio-visual technology, including projection mapping and 3D representation, as well as art and sculptural installations, it said.

A sound and light show has also been set up to display the events that happened on April 13, 1919 when the British forces fired indiscriminately on a large and peaceful gathering of protesters, killing over 1,000 people and wounding hundreds of them.
