Muktsar, January 23: The death of a four-year-old boy of Sham Khera village in the Lambi Assembly segment, who was reportedly suffering from swine flu, at a private hospital in Ludhiana yesterday has caused fear among residents here.
Three other swine flu cases have been reported from the district. Dr Sukhpal Singh, Civil Surgeon, Muktsar, said: “We have report of four swine flu cases. While one patient died yesterday, the remaining are under treatment.”
On suspected cases and precautions, he said: “We have held a meeting with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and appealed to them to give us detail of every such patient. As of now, we have no suspect in the district.”
A local doctor claimed that the number of suspected patients and swine flu positive people was much higher. “There are a number of people who do not report to the local health authorities and directly go to some major town for treatment,” he said.
Meanwhile, Baldev Singh, a relative of Saurav Singh, who died of swine flu, sought financial assistance for the family. He said deceased’s father was unemployed and he spent Rs 2.5 lakh on the treatment.
