Ludhiana, May 23: The owner of a sweetmeat shop was booked for allegedly hurting religious sentiments of a Sikh employee after he got irritated over his upturned moustache and forcibly cut off a part of it on Sunday, said police. The employee, who worked as a cashier, also alleged that his boss crushed the cut off moustache under his feet and threatened him.
Division 7 police arrested the owner, Rakesh Kumar Gupta of Khushi Ram and Sons in Sector 32, Chandigarh Road, and another employee, Parveen Kumar. They also recovered a pair of scissors and the cut-off moustache from the shop. Both Gupta and Parveen Kumar were produced before the court on Sunday and were sent to Central Jail in judicial remand.

The complainant, Ram Singh of Sector 32, Chandigarh Road, said he was a cashier at Khushi Ram and Sons for the past year. He kept a moustache as part of his religious practice.
He stated that on Sunday, when he was working at the cash counter, Gupta came to him and asked him to “lower” his moustache. When he refused, Gupta started threatening him and asked Parveen to bring a pair of scissors.
“When I resisted, Gupta thrashed me. He overpowered me with Parveen’s help and cut off my moustache,” he stated.
