Shopkeeper shot dead in Nabha, mother dies of shock

Date:

Chandigarh, October 26: A 42-year-old man, who was working late at his shop due to the festive season, was shot dead at his shop in Nabha on Wednesday night.

Monik Jindal, owner of Pal Khaad Store in New Grain Market was in his shop when, at around 8:30 pm, unidentified man entered his shop and shot him point blank range. Motive of the crime remains unknown.

After the news of the murder of Monik reached his home, his mother Padma Rani died of shock. Surprisingly, the Rs 2 lakh cash in the shop was untouched. Labourers working nearby said they saw a man running towards the main gate of the market after they heard a gunshot. According to eye witnesses, there was a motorcyclist waiting on the road with whom the accused fled.

“Every other person has his face covered due to the dust of paddy and traffic, so no one suspected when a person with his face covered was roaming around,” said Bahadur Singh, a labourer who claimed to have seen the accused run towards the gate.

Police is investigating the matter and are looking for CCTV footage of nearby shops. There was a camera in the victim’s shop too, which the police has taken hold of. Since the footage is password-protected, it has been sent to the IT cell. No one in the family other than the victim is said to know the password.

Nabha DSP Chand Singh said the police was investigating the matter and that nothing can be said at this point of time. IG AS Rai also visited the spot and assured that criminals will be nabbed soon. Jindal’s body has been sent to Nabha civil hospital for postmortem.

Around two years ago, a similar incident occurred in the shop across the road. The owner had a narrow escape as the bullet hit his stomach. The accused was nabbed by the servants in that case.
