NCRB lauds Punjab Police for successfully implementing various IT Projects & analytical tools

The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on Friday, appreciated the efforts of the Punjab Police for successfully implementing their national flagship project-Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & System (CCTNS) and further customizing it as per the requirements of the state police.

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Dinkar Gupta, accompanied by Director NCRB Ram Phal Pawar and ADGP Technical Services Kuldeep Singh held a high-level meeting organised by Punjab Police to give a presentation on various solutions & initiatives being provided by the NCRB.

“NCRB is proud to be associated with the Punjab Police, which had done a great job in implementation of CCTNS in all the Police Stations in Punjab and becoming an example for others in technology driven Policing,” said Director NCRB Ram Phal Pawar while thanking DGP Dinkar Gupta and his team for their efforts.

CCTNS is a software application aimed at creating a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of policing by sharing standardised means of crime and criminal data across the police stations in the country. The application was launched by NCRB in 2009.

Director NCRB, while lauding the Punjab Police said that Punjab was the first state to implement the COGNOS— a Business Intelligence Tool and a GIS-based Geo Spatial Analysis of Crime Events and Predictive Policing besides scoring 94 percent on Pragati CCTNS Dashboard.

“Also, Punjab is the first state to equip its all police stations, district headquarters and Punjab Police Headquarters with the highest internet speed varying from 10 Mbps to 1 Gbps using the Multi-protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network simulator,” said Director Ram Phal Pawar, while appreciating the IT initiatives taken by the Punjab Police.

He also particularly mentioned about Sub-Inspector Harpreet Singh, who secured the first position in the country in the CCTNS Hackathon & Cyber Challenge-2021. Notably, the Punjab Police had also won three awards at the National-level Good Practices Conference 2020 hosted by the NCRB in New Delhi in December last year.

DGP Punjab Dinkar Gupta, while thanking the NCRB for reaching out to Punjab Police to show this wonderful presentation on the new initiatives being taken by their Bureau to modernise the policing including Cri-Mac, which allows the information sharing between different state police forces on heinous crimes.

He also suggested bringing all these web-based Software Solutions to mobiles so that it could become handy and user-friendly for the police officers which will help in investigation purposes.

“There should be a mobile application for citizens as well, where they can share any kind of information or tip-offs related with proclaimed offenders, any crime happening or missing persons etc,” proposed DGP Dinkar Gupta.

ADGP Technical Services Kuldeep Singh gave a presentation on the achievements of the Punjab Police in the IT sector, including CCTNS mobile application, geofencing of police stations and district boundaries; bilingual phonetic search and the Village Information System (VIS). He also shared the challenges being faced by the Punjab Police in the implementation of these initiatives.

Meanwhile, NCRB gave presentation on the technical features and user benefits for their various initiatives CCTNS, National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS), Missing persons database, Stolen vehicle database, Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System (ICJS), Cri-MAC, National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRB), National Digital Police Portal, Unify App, National Cyber Crime Training Centre and Investigation Tracking System for Sexual Offences.

Among others, Deputy Director CCTNS Prashun Gupta, Senior Technical Officer NCRB Arun Dev Pandey, ADGPs and IGsP from Punjab Police attended the meeting, while over 100 Punjab Police senior officers, including CPs/SSPs, joined the meeting via Video Conference.
