New 40 feet wide bridge will be built at village Akhara on Jagraon-Raikot road: Harbhajan Singh ETO

Date:

Chandigarh, May 25:

A new 40 feet wide bridge will be constructed on the branch of Abohar canal at village Akhara under Jagraon assembly constituency by the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Rs 780 lakh will be spent on the construction of this bridge.

Divulging this, Punjab Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said that the people of the area have been demanding to build a new wide bridge in place of the old one. He said that this demand will be fulfilled by the approval of this bridge. He said that under NABARD scheme RIDF-28, an approval letter has been issued for the reconstruction of this bridge with the cost of Rs. 780 lakh.

It is worth mentioning that there is a very old 12 feet wide bridge (Akhara Bridge) on Abohar Kanal near village Akhara on this 33 feet wide Jagraon-Raikot road, which is in dilapidated condition. This road connects many important cities like Jagraon, Raikot, Barnala, Khanna, Malerkotla etc. Due to this narrow bridge, traffic jams are the routine matter on the road and it posed great risk of accidents. The construction of this bridge will solve this long-pending problem of traffic jams.
