Chandigarh, March 1: In a relief to the Punjab’s Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF), Hills, Harsh Kumar, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) today withdrew its non-bailable warrants issued against him.Kumar, who appeared in person before the Tribunal today, requested the court to seek departmental record of the allegations levelled against him by the petitioner, Dr Amardeep Aggarwal, a Sangrur-based environmental activist.
On Kumar’s contention, the Tribunal directed the Forest Department to produce the record pertaining to allegations against him. Contesting the claim of the department that he had been transferred on the basis of the letters written by him to project developers stating Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA) notification would cease to exist in February, Kumar said he was still CCF (Hills) on the basis of stay he got from CAT.
He further alleged that in the ongoing Bist Doab Canal case in the Tribunal, it was then PPCF and Forest Corporation Managing Director who had cut trees from the forest on both sides of the canal.
