NIA raids five locations in Punjab in connection with Jalalabad bike IED blast case

The anti-terror federal probe agency NIA on Friday said it has conducted searches at multiple locations in Punjab in connection with its investigation into the bike IED blast case of Jalalabad in the state.

A spokesperson in the agency said the NIA teams have conducted searches at five locations in Taran Tarn, Fazilka and Ferozepur districts of Punjab in connection with the case.

The NIA official said, “During the searches conducted today, electronic gadgets, ammunition, documents and other incriminating materials have been seized.”

The case pertains to an explosion in a Bajaj Platina bike near Punjab National Bank under Jalalabad police station in Fazilka in which one person namely Binder Singh died on the spot.

“Initial investigation revealed that the accused were in touch with Pakistan based terrorists and smugglers and were recruited for carrying out terrorist attacks in crowded areas by triggering explosive devices,” the official said.

The case was first registered by Punjab Police on September 16, 2021 under sections 3 and 4 of Explosive Act, which NIA had re-registered it on September 1, 2021. Till now five accused persons have been arrested in the instant case, the official said.
