Nihangs approach Akal Takht, seek action against ‘Satkar Committees’

Date:

Amritsar, July 12: Two days after two nihangs were injured as nearly 15 activists of the Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee allegedly thrashed them in the surgical ward of Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar, some nihang outfits under the banner of Panth Akali Dashmesh Tarna Dal Panjwa Nishan on Wednesday approached the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, demanding action against such “so-called committees”.

More than a hundred nihangs led by Baba Bir Singh Rangreta handed over a memorandum to Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, seeking action against those involved in thrashing their fellow nihangs.

Bir Singh said there are many so-called Satkar Committees which are trying to defame nihangs. He said on Monday two of their fellow nihangs were attacked by some members of the Satkar Committee led by Balbir Singh, Sukhjit Singh, Paramjit Singh Akali and Ranjit Singh.

“The workers of these so-called committees have also been defaming nihangs by thrashing them and making their videos viral on social media. A strict action should be taken by the Akal Takht against these people,” he said.

Two nihangs — Ranjit Singh and Manjit Singh — were injured in an attack allegedly by Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee on Monday, a day after the video of assault on a committee member went viral on social media.
