No ‘Self-Examination Centers’ in coming PSEB examinations

Date:

Ferozepur, December 27, 2017:  As per the latest orders issued by the Education Department, there will be no ‘self-centers’, to put a check on the mass copying, during the coming Punjab School Education Board exams.

Every year pictures and reports of mass copying or relatives hurling stones at policemen stopping them from providing cheat sheets to their wards have been hitting local media headlines without any public outrage.

According to the new instructions, no student would appear in the exam in his/her school and the students have to the adjoining or far-off centres.

Speaking to the Babushahi.com, Hans Raj, the educationist said, the number of copying students is not more than 5 percent and for the sake of this small number of students, the rest of honest and sincere 95 percent students appearing in the exams, will be put to inconvenience with the new instructions.

There is a great resentment among the educationists, students, parents and education circle.  The experts are of the view that in case the self-examination centers are being abolished to curb the menace of mass-copying, then there is the number of other ways to put a complete check on the issue.

Hans Raj said, the Board may or may not get any fruitful results by issuing these orders but it will definitely be a problem for the handicap and girl students.

He further said it would have been better if the staff on duty due the exams has been ordered to the put other than his present place of posting. In this way, only 10-12 teachers have to go to the adjoining centre instead of asking the students to go to the distance examination centres.

Another social observer and educationist, K.K.Dhawan said, it is not only difficult but an impossible task for authorities to stop it. It is also no longer a law and order problem but a social issue which needs to be addressed socially.

While another group of academicians were of the view that to cure the malaise, advocated an ‘open book system’ for the examinees with subjective and concept-based questions.
