Chandigarh, September 23
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab stated that the people of Punjab expect the newly-appointed Chief Minister to set a deadline rather than an announcement for the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and justice in the Behbal Kalan firing. The AAP said the Chief Minister should not just make announcements but ensure timelines for all matters.
In a joint statement issued from the party headquarters here on Thursday, senior leader and MLA Aman Arora and MLA Prof Baljinder Kaur said the newly appointed Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is walking with him on the lines of ‘Super CM’, were continuously making announcements. “These are all the announcements that the Congress leadership has been making since before the 2017 elections. But in the last four-and-a-half years, the Congress did nothing. That’s why the people want work, not announcements,” they added.
Aman Arora said the Channi government has only sixty days left to work. He said Chief Minister Channi should clarify to the people of Punjab and the Sangat around the world whether he will be able to punish the culprits of Guru’s sacrilege and those who opened fire on the unarmed Sangat; in the next thirty days.
Prof Baljinder Kaur said that the people’s confidence has been lost due to the announcements of the Congress. She said apart from mere announcements, no effective comprehensive action has been taken by the Channi government so far. “Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi should tell in how many days he would eradicate the drug mafia system and put the big defaulters; who are famous for drug smuggling, behind the bars,” she added.
Taking a jibe at the Chief Minister, the AAP leaders asked him to tell when he is getting the moment for action against the transport mafia. They said mere rhetoric and announcements cannot heal the pain of the people of Punjab, whose family members have ruined their lives by getting trapped in the quagmire of drugs. The leaders said Channi should tell whether the rhetoric made so far on the sand mafia is enough to crack down on this system.
The AAP MLAs said that the newly-appointed Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi needs to be guarded over their implementation instead of carrying forward the tradition of announcements; because the people of Punjab are frustrated and tired of the hollow declarations of the Congress. They said the people of Punjab also ask this question to the so-called ‘Super Chief Minister’ Navjot Singh Sidhu. “The people of Punjab ask whether Navjot Singh Sidhu will remain the captain only to grab the chief minister’s chair and save his newfound strength or will he do any work to improve the quality of life of the people and Punjab,” they added.
