Now, Centre extends tenures of secretaries of Defence and Home, IB and RAW chiefs

A day after extending the tenures of the directors of the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate, the central government extended the tenures of Defence Secretary, Union Home Secretary, Director of Intelligence Bureau, Secretary of Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW).

The notification said the central government could extend the service of these officers for a period that it deems proper on “a case-to-case basis” for reasons to be recorded in writing.

The extension is subject to the condition that the total extension would be for two years.

All these officers currently serve till 62 and enjoy a fixed tenure of two years.

The central government’s notification issued on Monday also mentioned the extension in the tenures of CBI and ED directors that were reported in the press.
