NRI shot in gun house, owner’s son booked

Hoshiarpur, September 19: An NRI woman, Sarabjit Kaur Dhami, was shot dead in a gun house in Tanda Urmar on Tuesday. The police have registered a case of murder against Amanpreet Singh, son of gun house owner Sarabjit Singh.

Canada-based Dhami had arrived in India a week ago to complete formalities regarding her deceased husband Gurminder Singh’s property. He had died about seven months ago.

She and her sister-in-law, Dalveer Kaur, went to Chahal Gun House. After a heated exchange, Amanpreet allegedly fired at them with a revolver. Three bullets hit Dhami. She died on the spot, while Dalveer was injured. The latter was taken to the Civil Hospital, Tanda. In view of her serious condition, she was referred to Hoshiarpur. Amanpreet allegedly fled after locking the shop, leaving Dhami inside.

Local police officials reached the spot. They rounded up Sarabjit Singh and sealed the shop.

The NRI woman had come to India for 10 days, leaving her two children in Canada. Dalveer said they had no enmity with anyone. She stated that when they entered the shop, a woman was present there.

The latter left on seeing them, following which the accused opened fire, Dalveer added.
