Old-age homes to come up in 10 districts: Dr. Baljit Kaur

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Punjab government is making continuous efforts for betterment of elderly people in the state.Government has proposal to open old age homes in 10 districts.

Giving information in this regard, The minister of social security, women and child development Dr. Baljit Kaur said that old age homes to come up in Bathinda, Fatehgarh Sahib, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Patiala, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, S.A.S. Nagar and Malerkotla districts.

She said that the state government has noticed that old age homes are much needed according to present scenario. So, there is proposal to build 10 old age homes in various districts.Government has also planned to run these old age homes through NGOs, trusts and red cross societies by giving them financial assistance.

These old age homes will have the capacity to take care of 25 elderly to 150 elderly people. Department is taking swift action regarding this, Minister added.
