Gurdaspur, May 4: Followers and relatives of former Gurdaspur MP Vinod Khanna have decided to “celebrate” the actor’s death at a function to be held on May 8 at a marriage palace in Pathankot.

Batala, Gurdaspur, Sujanpur, Dinanagar and Pathankot are the main cities of the actor’s former parliamentary constituency which he represented for four terms. Pathankot was finally chosen as the venue as the actor had a residence-cum-office there, barely 200 m away from the venue where the prayer meeting and “celebrations” are scheduled to be held.

Family members said Khanna’s death was being celebrated because he was a disciple of Acharya Rajneesh (Osho) who believed that “death is not the end of life but the very crescendo of life, the very climax”. “Mourning is practised for a person who dies without living his life as he wished to. You do not need to mourn for a person who lived his life exactly like he wished to. You have to give him a loving and a celebratory farewell,” said a family member.

Top state and central BJP leaders are expected to attend the two-hour-long proceedings. State BJP executive member Balkishen Mittal, an aide of Khanna, said, “Punjab BJP president Vijay Sampla is among those who are coordinating with the family for the function. Transportation is being organised from far-off towns like Dera Baba Nanak, Fatehgarh Churian, Qadian and Batala, all of which form a part of the Gurdaspur Parliamentary constituency.”
