Over 8 lakh voters applied across Punjab during special summary revision-2021: CEO Dr Raju

Chandigarh, January 14: More than 8 lakh voters have filled the forms for registration, deletion or correction in the voter lists across the state. As many as 4.36 lakh new voters are now registered with 1.71 lakh names deleted during special summary revision-2021 in Punjab. Now, the number of voters in the state has increased from 2.6 crore to 2.9 crore.

Disclosing this here today, the Chief Electoral Officer Punjab Dr. S. Karuna Raju, while addressing the online meeting to the representatives of political parties, said that under the final process of special summery revision the final publication of the voter lists would be done on January 15, 2021. The final copy of the voter lists would be handed over to the political parties in the format of CD, he added.

The Chief Electoral Officer apprised the representatives of the political parties that the election year of the state would start from January 15, 2021 for which the voter awareness campaign was to be intensified by the department. He also appealed to the political parties to create awareness at the party level to increase the vote share in the state. He further said that due to election year from August, 2021 to December, 2021 the voter lists would be revised again.

Dr. Raju said that National Voters Day would be celebrated across the state on January 25, 2021 under which various programs are to be conducted. Among others Additional Chief Electoral Officer Mrs. Madhavi Kataria was also present in the meeting.
