PATIALA, JANUARY 26: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday announced a slew of infrastructure projects of over Rs 150 crore for the development of Patiala City.
Captain Amarinder Singh also announced that the State Government would soon launch an Asian Development Bank (ADB) assisted project of Rs. 699 crore of canal based water supply to ensure uninterrupted, clean and safe drinking water for the residents of Patiala City, where the quality of groundwater was not fit for consumption. Notably, the state Government had already formulated a massive action plan to ensure canal based potable water supply to the residents of Patiala, Amritsar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana.
Making these announcements at the 70th Republic Day Function here at Raja Bhalindra Singh Sports Complex, Captain Amarinder Singh said that the previous SAD-BJP alliance Government blatantly neglected the development of this heritage city due to reasons best known to them. He, however, said since Patiala was his ancestral home and, moreover, he made a promise to the residents during assembly polls, he would give a complete facelift to the city by providing ultra-modern civic facilities, such as excellent road connectivity besides supply of canal based potable water. He reiterated his Government’s firm commitment to ensure holistic urban development across the state, especially Patiala.
The Chief Minister also announced that all the major city roads and streets would be refurbished, and other civic infrastructure inside all the municipal wards would be upgraded. Captain Amarinder also announced that a major project for cleaning and remodelling of Badi and Choti Nadi would be taken up shortly.
The construction work of the New Bus Stand would be started in May after completion of the tendering process and other requisite formalities, said the Chief Minister, while also announcing that shifting of dairies from the city to Ablowal would be started soon.
In order to bring more efficiency in the functioning of the Rajendra Hospital, the Chief Minister said work to improve its infrastructure was underway as this iconic hospital was completed neglected by the previous government. He hoped significant Improvement would be visible once these works are completed.
The Chief Minister appealed to the people of Patiala to extend wholehearted support and cooperation to the Municipal Corporation and District Administration to keep the city neat and clean.
