Overseas Gurdwaras Entry: Akal Takht Jathedar defends, Akali Dal chief opposes ban

Date:

Chandigarh, January 8, 2017: Sikh Clergy and political leadership have taken divergent views on the issue of overseas Sikh organizations banning entry of Indian government officials into gurdwaras abroad.

The difference of opinion was evident from the reactions of Jathedar Akal Takht, Giani Gurbachan Singh, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh BADAL AND PRESIDENT OF Delhi Sikh Gurdawara Management Committee (DSGMC).

On Monday, Giani Gurbachan Singh justified the decision taken by the management committees of gurdwaras in UK, USA and other European countries whereas the SAD president held a diametrically opposite view.

Responding to a media query during his news conference here on Monday, Sukhbir Badal  termed the decision as unfortunate.

The president of the DSGMC as well as SAD Delhi unit, Manjit Singh GK also endorsed the view of Jathedar, Akal Takht. In a statement, he said the decision reflected the pain and anguish of the overseas Sikhs who seemed worried about their roots. He also appealed the Government to review its policies.
