Chandigarh, April 18: The Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Punjab has provided three lakh masks to the Government departments which were made by the women self help groups under the National Rural Livelihood Mission.
The Rural Development Minister, Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, giving information regarding this here today said that the courageous efforts of the women self help groups has provided necessary safety cover to the health, police personnel and other government departments who are fighting a war against the deadly corona virus at ground level.
This has also provided some earning to the rural women self help groups in this crises period. The Minister said that the 3395 women members of the self groups have earned Rs 9 lac from this effort.
Mr. Bajwa said that the task of making masks is constantly in progress and all new orders for masks are being delivered without any delay. He said that in single day today itself, the self help groups have received order to make 25,000 masks.
The Panchayat Minister said that Punjab Government is fighting a war against Corona in the state and the Rural Development and Panchayat department is fighting this war at forefront along with health and police departments.
He said that the department collected the data of all the NRIs who visited Punjab within just two days and provided to the health department for screening. The department is also motivating the villagers through panchayats from the day one about the benefits of lockdown to break the chain of Corona virus.
Besides this the department has also launched a campaign to take precautionary measures during the wheat harvest season in the farms and grain markets. The department is utilizing multiple channels like pasting posters in villages and social media platforms.
